VISTA RIDGE….WHAT’S THE DEAL?

VISTA RIDGE, HERE WE GO AGAIN…..
Give this a bit of thought. We were just told that the Vista Ridge project was going to cause rates to climb a bit more than originally projected (like we wouldn’t have expected that one.) Vista Ridge is a SAWS project. SAWS is a municipally owned utility (means we are on the hook.)
Now, an “out-of-state” Arizona company Epcor USA Inc., which is a subsidiary of and “out-of-country” Canada company Epcor Utilities Inc., has purchased a stake in the Vista Ridge project. The interesting part is that they will be “operating” the pipeline.
Why would a Canadian company, which paid 470 million in 2012 for the American Water Works serving Nevada and Arizona, invest in a SAWS project in South Texas (Financial arrangements yet to be disclosed.) Answer EXPECTED PROFITS.
Wasn’t it just 30 days or so ago that the increase in rates due to Vista Ridge was announced. Wonder when purchase discussions began with Epcor?
If indeed there are PROFITS to be had, shouldn’t they go back into repairing infrastructure or reducing water rates.
As I recall, we have to pay for an enormous amount of water, whether we need to take it or not. Wonder what happens to any excess we pay for, is it resold to someone else? Isn’t that “double-dipping” on our dime?
And let’s see, who approves water rate increases?
